無可諱言的，槍與玫瑰在重金屬樂界的地位早己是堅如磐石，1987的首張專輯"Appetite For Destruction(毀滅慾)"，1988年的"GN'R Lies(謊言)"，1991年的兩張一套的經典之作"Use Your Illusion I , II(運用幻象 I , II )"，到1993年的龐克搖滾重唱專輯"The Spaghetti Incident(義大利麵意外事件)"，槍與玫瑰的唱片銷售量估計超過5000萬張。他們的音樂非常的吵鬧，但是詮釋起一些慢板的抒情歌曲如『Don't Cry』、『November Rain』和『Estranged』卻又是讓人感覺非常的心碎；他們的歌曲充滿了性、暴力和岐視，Slash高分貝的吉他噪音和Lzzy的強勁節奏，Axl擁有獨特共嗚的嗓音和近乎神經質歇斯底里的唱腔，讓人聽得血胍賁張，陷入了不可自抑的瘋狂境界，令許多父母和衛道人士大搖其頭，另外有關於他們不檢點的傳聞和謠言從未間斷過，其實Axl也曾經說過："我們情願沒沒無名，最好像住在愛達荷這種邊疆地帶，也不要待在洛杉磯被指指點點"。槍與玫瑰的音樂以藍調為基礎而延伸出來，簡單的藍調和重複的旋律很容易讓歌迷牢記，歌詞則是揉合了性，暴力和Four Letters的綜合體，更讓年輕的一代的苦悶和桎梏得到了全然的解放。話雖如此，他們也不是只有這樣的，在許多歌裡面有些是正面的。然而現在的槍與玫瑰合唱團元老只剩主唱Axl Rose一人，老樂迷們渴望看到原始班底復合，不過關鍵顯然卡在Axl Rose的身上，Slash表示：「槍與玫瑰己經結束了，我們其中一人願意重聚做場秀，或是短期的巡演，可是並非全部的人都願意，因此不是全員集合，就不會發生」

超脫樂團介紹

1987年，Nirvana剛開始是由Kurt Cobain（主唱兼吉他手）、 Khris Novoselic （貝斯手）和Aaron Burckhard（鼓手）在華盛頓州的Aberdeen（距西雅圖有八英哩遠）組成，成就了樂團最原始的陣容。

1988年，在西雅圖傳奇製作大將Jack Endino的操刀下，Nirvana錄製了一捲 10首歌的Demo帶，此時鼓手之職由在 Kurt Cobain個人錄製的Demo「Fecal Matter」（1985年）中合作過的Melvins 鼓手Dale Crover擔任。
同年四月，Dave Foster正式取代原鼓手Aaron Burckhard。 但數周後，Chad Channing再度取代Dave Foster成為Nirvana的鼓手。

　1988年，Nirvana四處表演而且到處傳達他們的試聽片（Demo tape）。 西雅圖當地的獨立廠牌Sub Pop開始對他們有興趣，Sub Pop的老闆安排和他們 在一間咖啡廳見面。Kurt也非常高興地就和Sub Pop簽約了。
六月，他們錄了他們的第一支單曲“Love Buzz”。 同年年底，Sub Pop為Nirvana出版單曲“Love Buzz/Big Cheese”。

　1989年一月，吉他手Jason Everman加入Nirvana，使樂團成為四人編制， 同時也完成他們的首張專輯「Bleach」。這張專輯由Jack Endino操刀， 只花了606元美金錄製（一般公認此張專輯已概略雕塑出日後經典鉅作「Nevermind」的雛型）。「Bleach」在英國得到了很大的讚賞（由Tupelo發行）。
Jason Everman在他們的巡迴演唱期間消失匿跡，然後他們繼續和同樣 是Sub Pop旗下的樂團Tad一起巡迴。而最後，Chad Channing也離開了。

　當Nirvana正在徵求鼓手時，為了要在英國舉行巡迴演唱，先找了Mudhoney的鼓手 Dan Peter暫代。同時，Nirvana也和知名DC硬蕊叛克團體Scream的鼓手Dave Grohl 連絡，表示希望他能加入Nirvana。 最後Dave Grohl去西雅圖和他們練了幾首歌，便加入Nirvana，成為第六任鼓手。

　1991年冬天，Nirvana正式以最所熟知的三人班底（Kurt/Krist/Dave）簽入主流大廠Geffen唱片公司旗下，而且簽了百萬契約。
同年九月，他們發行第二張專輯 「Nevermind」，這張由Butdi Vig操刀混音的首張主流大碟，獲「Spin另類指南」 給予10分滿分的頂級評價，至今已累積了逾一千萬的銷售天量，其中冠軍單曲 “Smells Like Teen Spirit”亦是另類搖滾迷所耳熟能詳的「國歌」級作品。 而更重要的是，「Nevermind」促成了Grunge風潮乃至整個另類搖滾革命的爆發。

　隨著「Nevermind」於1992年一月登上Billboard流行專輯榜冠軍王座，並勇闖全英專輯榜Top 10，Nirvana的聲勢也在此刻推向最高峰。
同年年底，Geffen唱片公司推出一張命名為「Incesticide」的B-Sides作品精選，很快地成為一張金唱片。

　1993年九月，由Steve Albini、Scott litt的操刀下發表了第四張專輯 「In Utero」（原名「I hate myself and I want to die」），「Spin另類指南」給予 9分高評。Nirvana並先後於九月和十一月參加「Satarday night live」及 「MTV Unplugged」節目的演出。

　在後來的巡迴演唱中，Nirvana遇到了Pat Smear（吉他手），Pat在演唱會中幫他們演奏吉他的部分，並被譽為“Nirvana的第四人”。

　1994年四月八日，Kurt的屍體被一名電器工人發現，他藉由舉槍自盡結束了重重名氣背後的壓抑生命，擺脫凡俗。只留下一張遺書和一張93年在紐約表演的 「MTV Unplugged In New York」專輯（94年一月發行）的他，享年27歲。

　Nirvana解散後，鼓手Dave Grohl重新恢復吉他手身份，與Pat Smear等人合組 Grunge/Punk樂團「Foo Fighters」。（1994年）

　1996年十月一日，Geffen唱片公司發行一張由貝斯手Krist Novoselic將Nirvana 在89到94年間所保存的現場錄音聽過上百遍後所選出的作品輯，專輯名為「From the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah」，「Rolling Stone雜誌」給予四顆星，「Spin另類指南」給予8分評價。
